CTE learner platform: trial summary and findings
In the condensed summary provided below, course facilitator Karen Kemsley shares several key findings from a recently completed trial on the Chasing Time English learner platform. The 8-week short course served as part of an ongoing testing and rollout process for our new online platform launched in April 2023.
Overview
The 8-week trial was offered to learners who had previously taken Chasing Time English courses on the FutureLearn platform and had expressed interest in further opportunities to study with us.
High levels of participation and engagement from the learner cohort created a fun and dynamic class environment. User feedback reflects that Chasing Time English is providing a flexible and engaging solution for learners of English across a wide demographic profile.
Participants
41 participants representing 16 different countries across 4 continents completed the trial course. Aged 19-73, the cohort’s education backgrounds spanned from completed secondary school through to earned university doctorates.
Content
Two drama series, Days Crossing and Skippers Pass Homecoming, were included and featured vocabulary, listening, discussion, social interactions and reading activities. Participants were encouraged to explore the language and then engage in discussions through the platform, with the course facilitator contributing on a weekly basis.
Results
95% of participants said the courses met or exceeded expectations, 95% said they learned new skills by finishing the course, and 73% had already applied the skills they had learned.
